Exclusive: An interview with NeverShoutNever

On December 16th I was fortunate enough to be able to sit down and talk with Christofer and Hayden of NeverShoutNever and The Shout about the upcoming album and the tour, which kicked off last night. The tour is completely stripped down and acoustic and the opening acts are acoustic as well. All venues on this tour are small and intimate, I was literally against the stage because at the venue last night there were no guard rails but speakers and boxes in the way. These small venues create an amazing sound and make the experience that much better.

After an amazing show and cooling down I was able to meet up with Chris and Hayden and have a chat. Dad was there handy with the camera and there to chime in with a few questions. What made the interview exceptionally special for us was that they were kind enough to perform a song off the new album. Pick up NeverShoutNever's album, "What is Love?" on January 26th wherever music is sold. Or preorder it at http://www.nevershoutnever.com/whatislove/

Be Kind To Your Opening Acts

I know I know, I'm talking over the blog with all of these posts. But I'm a teenage girl with a lot on her mind and have a whole lot more to say.

I was just thinking for a bit as I watched some videos I had taken from recent concerts. I was taking a look at a video of a opening act at a show and unlike the video of the headliner, no one was really singing along with the lyrics. I wasn't singing even though I knew the words because I really didn't want to tarnish the video with my voice but I felt bad hearing no one else sing. And it made me realize that I always look up the opening acts on shows because I feel so much guilt standing there in the crowd and never having heard the song that was playing. Plus it makes the wait time go so much faster if you are enjoying and are farmiliar with the music playing. One last thing about checking out small bands before you see the show. There are a few things that I have experienced that have made me feel really great about myself. And I can honestly admit that one of them is being able to see the look on the bands face when they spot you singing in the crowd to their songs.

That's all for now

-Chelsea

PS-it's way easier to get a guitar pic from a band member if they see you singing along or if you know their name.

RIP Go:Audio

Chelsea again just trying to crank out another blog so I can get back into the swing of things. Recently one of my favorite British bands…..stopped being a band. Thanksgiving day I saw on twitter that they had updated their blog and to check it out for some important news. Thinking that it could be another tour announcement I decided to read and was almost brought to tears. Go:Audio was a band I wanted to see in my lifetime but I guess I'll now never get the chance. On to discovering the next upcoming British alternative band…hopefully this one will stay together.

Chelsea’s Music Watch-Carter Hulsey

Ohmygoshnowaychelseathesnarkyteenagerisactuallyleavingaposttotheblog?!?!?

Why yes, person who never uses spaces when they speak, yes I am.

I have decided to start logging in and leaving short posts to get the word out about what the other half [and by other i mean way more awesome] of Dad Car Radio. Dads name is just in the title for the image.

Before I go into artists who are way more well known that I like I want to write up a post about someone who is not getting nearly enough attention. When not on tour solo or with best friend and roomate [Christofer Drew] Carter Hulsey is making music in Joplin Misourri.

What makes him unique is that it can be completely universal to any age group and the sound is able to range over a few different music genres. On Carters myspace he is listed as Acoustic/Folk but while listening to him, especially live, you're able to hear a hint of alternative pop at times and his voice as the sweet mix of country in it. Although on his last tour he and his band were the first opening act they were able to keep the audience engaged and in the two shows I went to during the tour the audience didn't ever try to talk over them. His songs are sweet and make you wish there was a guy like him in your town. I took a video of "Parade" which I highly reccomend but my personal favorite song by him is 'before we go down'

Check out Carter at http://www.myspace.com/carterhulsey

My Top 10 of 2008

It appears this post was stuck in draft version purgatory for the past 10 months.  It's almost time to start compiling my 2009 list – so take a walk down memory lane all the way back to 2008…

We're counting 'em down and we won't stop til we get to the top!

Here is my top 10 list for 2008 – I decided to do one list combining events, singles, CD's ,downloads and  trends. It's all the stuff I enjoyed the most.

10.  Girl Talk – Feed the Animals reinvented what an album can be.

9. Virgin Mobile Festival was again the best 2 days of the summer, even better thios year with cousin/nephew Sam,

8. She and Him
was a ray of sunshine and a warm breeze after weeks of rain.

7. My iPhone is my favorite piece of technology ever.

6. The Hold Steady – For letting me fall in love with a smart band again.

5. Blitzen Trapper – Furr Single of the year.

4. Twitter – Everyone laughed at me… who's laughing now.  @cpeterc

3. The Baltimore Ravens – A rookie coach and rookie QB and they make the playoffs and then win 2 playoff games. Purple pride.

2. Podcasts – Really got excited about them this year. Favorites include You Look Nice Today, This Week in Tech, Adam Carolla podcast, Sound Opinions, This American Life,  The meditation podcast – there's something for everyone and they are there when you want them. Traditional radio must evolve to compete. Will they?

1. Chelsea's Sweet 16 was the party of the summer and the joy of a lifetime.

A Great Halloween Playlist

This may be the laziest post ever done on Dad’s Car Radio, I will now direct you to an EXCELLENT Halloween playlist curated entirelyby someone else. My thanks to Henry Mortimer.

Forever Young

Neil Young played a concert in Hyde Park London the other night and encored with the Beatles "A Day in the Life" ,which he has been known to do over the years. This time he is joined onstage by Paul McCartney. What a glorious pairing and joyous performance. Pure Heart and Soul and a thrashing crashing Neil Young ending, too. Wow, just Wow.
