Virgin Mobile Festival 2008 Preview

Just a couple of weeks to go until the 3rd V-Fest at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore. It’s time to start learning a bit about those acts in the lineup that you may never have heard or seen before.

Rodrigo y Gabriela are an acoustic guitar duo from Mexico City who are now based in Dublin, Ireland.  They met while playing in a thrash metal band and their set list includes thrilling original material as well as cover versions of songs by Metallica and Led Zeppelin.

This video is a song called "Tamacun" which received airplay on many of America’s finer radio stations including WRNR and WTMD.

All Time Low at Ram’s Head Live

There were four bands on the bill Saturday night but for Chelsea and her 30 friends and most of the sell out crowd only one band mattered. All Time Low. 4 kids from Timonium Maryland who graduated from High School in 2006 and have been on the road most of the time since then.

We had a special section – a third floor balcony – for the party and had made signs so that arriving parents and kids could easily spot us outside and we would escort them in.  One of these signs was dropped to the stage by one of the guests and settled nicely, labeling this show as "Chelsea Party"!

This clip is from the opening number, "Holly (Would You Turn Me On)" – you can hear complete songs and see where they are off to next on their MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/alltimelow

Chelsea’s Super Sweet Sixteen

Over on the left hand side of the page if you click on the Sweet Sixteen Gallery you will be able to view photos from Chelsea’s Sweet Sixteen Party at Ram’s Head Live in Baltimore featuring All Time Low and a fantastic cake from Charm City Cakes.  The cake was a total surprise to Chelsea, courtesy of the Bumbleduck. Yes, that half duck half bumblebee creature atop the cake is a BumbleDuck.  They have magical powers!

More details soon including a couple video clips, but for now check out that cake!Chelsea_cake_sm

Have You Been Rick Rolled?

There is an interesting fast moving prank on the web these days called Rick Rolling. Perhaps you have heard of it. Perhaps not. It goes like this a friend sends you a message with a link that – "OMG! You have to see this!"  kind of message and the link goes HERE SO ahead click it – I’ll wait…

You have now been Rick Rolled – taken against your will to a Rick Astley video from the mid 80’s.  Apparently the kids think this is hilarious and on April Fools Day there was much Rick Rolling going on worldwide.

Now, whenever I hear the name Rick Astley I am reminded of Nick Lowe’s song "All Men are Liars" Which features these lyrics:

Do You remember Rick Astley?

He had a big fat hit it was ghastly.

He said I’m never gonna give you up or let you down,

Well I’m here to tell you that Dick’s a clown.

Though he was just a boy when he made that vow,

I’ll bet it all that he knows by now…

All Men, all men are Liars…"

The video is pretty amusing – And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Nick Lowe!

You can get revenge and NICK-Roll the next person who Rick Rolls you by pointing then to This Page

Virgin Festival Day 2 – Chelsea Interviews Brendon Urie

"Who is Brendon Urie?" None other than the lead singer of Panic! At the Disco, THE BAND that Chelsea was most excited to see at the Virgin Festival. Here’s her report:

Chels_panic

Chelsea: So Brendon, how do you like Baltimore?

Brendon:  I like it but it’s been awhile since we’ve done a show here so I’m trying to get used to the humidity.

Chelsea: Is there anything you really like about Baltimore?

Brendon: We’re feeling kinda’ sick because we had like a thousand crab cakes but “crab cakes and football that’s what Maryland does”. Right?

Chelsea: Indeed. Do have anything special in store for the show today?

Brendon: Yeah, I think were gonna’ do a new song that’s going to be on our new album

Chelsea: Wow sounds like a real treat when does the album come out?

Brendon: About January of February of 2008.

Chelsea: I can’t wait. By the way, are really wearing that on-stage?

Brendon – My MOM gave me this shirt.

Chelsea: Oh – I LOVE it!

Brendon: Thanks, she sewed it, actually.

Chelsea: Sweet! Well it’s been good talking to you Brendon have a great show!

Brendon: Good talking to you too – can I have your phone number?

Dad: Interview’s over, Brendon.

Virgin Festival Day 1 Part 9 The Bike Ride

There were a number of human powered taxis roaming the festival. We hopped a ride with one on Saturday afternoon. "Take us to the misting tent, please".  Watch as our driver almost runs over a guy on the path. The driver told us he had weighed himself before coming over that morning, was doing 10 hours ofHuman Taxi pedaling each day and then was going to weigh himself again.

Science!
