Interview with Halfway Deserted

In Wichita, Kansas a young man by the name of Jessee Keraly is getting a lot of buzz for his music. Going under the name Halfway Deserted Jesses soft voice mixed with seemingly effortless guitar playing are a perfect mixture for success. Due to technical difficulties the interview could not be videotaped even though we do have a video of him singing one of his songs above. Check him out at www.myspace.com/halfwaydeserted

Dads Car Radio (DCR): name. age. location

Halfway Deserted (HD):
Jesse Keraly. 16. Wichita, Kansas.

DCR: why did you pick the name
halfway deserted

HD: heh well in 6th grade a
friend wanted to start an indie band and he actually came up with it.

DCR: haha wow. okay when did
you start playing music

HD:  i started 3-4 years ago

DCR: were you writing songs
before or after you started playing instruments

HD: i wrote poetry but i
never wrote songs until i got a guitar and learned some chords

DCR::
in your song writing
process now what comes first, music or lyrics

HD:  honestly, neither. it
depeneds on what mood im in. alot of times i write the lyrics first though

DCR: do you ever get writers
block or have things seemed to flow pretty naturally for you

HD:  oh i think everyone gets
blocked up at times. so yes.

DCR::
are any songs from real
life experiences

HD: almost every song has to
do with something in my life

DCR: well who are your
musical influences or favorite artists?

HD:  i would say blink-182
has been one of my favorites, or my favorite band for a long time. also from

DCR: well you have great taste
in music. when you first posted your music online were you nervous?

HD:  heh no not really cause

its fun =D

DCR: would you reccomend other
post their stuff if they want to get into music

HD:  yeah of course, even if
you dont like it theres bound to be people that will. i never thought anyone
would really like my music but there are people that do, for whatever reason.

DCR: hm well since people like
your music do you plan on seeing if you can book some shows in your area?

HD:  well i actually did have
a show a while back with Daniel Moran. hes really good. it was fun
 but im not really too
focused on that right now

DCR: alright well other than
your music what are you interested in?

HD:  haha well music is
pretty much it. but i like walking around and i have 8 cats.. haha

DCR: haha wow alright last

    NeverShoutNever-What Is Love Album Review

It's been antcipated for almost two months by over 400,00 fans and it's finally coming down to the last few days before What Is Love by NeverShoutNever will be released. Getting my hands on the album early I decided to write up my own personal review of the 8 song record.

Love Is Our Weapon-4/5 Tattooed on Christofer Drew's chest the title of the first song on the record is all about change and how you can do something in the world. Uplifting and catchy this song is one of my favorites.

Jane Doe-3/5 I do love the song but since the songs first YouTube release over the summer the song seems a little tired, but maybe that's because I had it on repeat too much.

I Can't Stand It-5/5 You might remember this song being exclusively played by Christofer in Hayden in our sit down interview with him. It's still a super duper cute song and I personally see it at the equivelent of "Happy" on Drew's last EP.

Sacrilegious-4/5 I personally relate to this song with my own struggle with religion in my own every day life. I define myself as "Jesus Lover" and that's it so this song is a good one for all those other Jesus Lovers out there. It's also a great look past into Drew's past and seeing a side of him that isn't normally shown.

I Love You 5-5/5 Tell Christofer Drew you love him and 9 times out of ten he will reply with the title of this song. Adorable with it's 50's pop hit style this song will hopefully get a lot of radio play.

California-4/5 The land of glamor and plastic gets it own song on the record which has already become an interactive song at NeverShoutNever concerts. Considering the chorus is just "la la la la" it's a great song for the concert type setting.

What Is Love-5/5 The title song of the album is completely unique in it's style and sound. This song definitely goes under the surface as it retells the story of Drew's parents divorce. Even if you haven't dealt with a divorce in your life listening to this tune can still make you sit back and ask yourself "What Is Love?"

The Past-4/5 Also going deeper than the usual pop song I can see this song already getting for lack of the word bitched at by fans. The extreme amount of controversy over Christofer's smoking habits have been an issue with his younger fans over the past two years. Openly admitting the age that he started smoking cig's at 14 and "the green" at 16 will probably not get a positive response but if you can get past the choices he's made in his life you can really appreciate the musical talent shown in this song.

NeverShoutNevers album "What Is Love" Is going to be released Tuesday 1/26 wherever music is sold. Get it digitally, a CD copy or even a vinyl recond.

OK Go – “This Too Shall Pass”

I may be the last one to the OK Go Party. Not sure how I missed them and their 50 million You Tube views… In any case here is their latest video featuring the Notre Dame University Marching Band. Gotta smile when you watch this one.

You can help them make the next one – there's a cool contest here.

    Ke$ha

At first I will admit I was slightly skeptical about the girl who wakes up in the mornin' then brushes her teeth with a bottle of Jack. But like with most artists I gave the girl a listen and a completely fair chance. I usually am not into music that always appear on the top ten of iTunes unless it is something such as Lady Gaga, but I was extremely surprised by Ke$ha in many ways.

I have no idea if her whole image is fictional or not but either way it works. Even her name is one that is unforgettable because of the dollar sign replacing the S. Call it cheesy but it's memorable.

Yesterday I remembered that the girls Album, "Animal" dropped that day and decided to check out the price on iTunes. Since I had already purchased Tik Tok two weeks before I got the other 13 tracks for a little over five dollars. I was actually pretty floored by this because from someone who is dominating the charts and radio why would the album sell for so little? Nevertheless I consider it a blessing and was happy to download it. She is going to sell enough anyway that the low price will make up for it.

All I had to do was listen to the 30 second clip of the first song to know the album was going to become a favorite of mine for 2010.

    1. Your Love is My Drug-5/5 it's catchy and adorable with a fantastic beat. By far my favorite.

    2. Take It Off-4/5 definite club music. The beat can get a crowd going and I already see it on the Jersey Shore.

    3. Kiss n' Tell-4/5 The always wonderful 'man-skank' song. Girl power ftw.

    4. Stephen-3/5 The vocals in the beginning surprise me. Not my favorite but the whole concept makes me laugh.

    5. Blah Blah Blah (feat. 3OH!3)- 4/5 like 3OH!3 or not you should probably prepare for this one to be on the radio.

    6. Hungover- 3/5 Oh Ke$ha. You should know that all that excessive drinking leads to hangovers…oh it's a LOVE hangover. Original.

    7. Party at a Rich Dude's House- 3/5 no that's seriously the name of the song. Not much oo it but it has a good beat. The music video would be entertaining.

    8. Backstabber-2/5 It's kind of a filler in the album.

    9. Blind-4/5 Another one of my favorites. It compliments her style and voice.

    10. Dinosaur-4/5 Kind of 80's. Kind of ridiculous. All funny.

    11. Dancing With Tears In My Eyes- 5/5 Makes me want to get to know the girl and hear the backstory to it like a few of her other songs.

    12. Boots & Boys-3/5 it's a kind of dance-alone-in-your-room-pretending-your-oh-so-hot-song.

    13. Animal-3/5 Little dissapointing considering the album is named Animal. So not as catchy as I assumed it would be but I still like it.

    14. Tik Tok-5/5 Self explanitory. It's a hit.

    AP Tour

Yesterday the AP tour presale tickets went on sale nationwide. I was in a complete rush to get my own ticket so there was no time to write about it, plus I'm lazy.

I have never attended the Alternative Press Tour before due to various reasons but I have a feeling it will not be dissapointing. Headlining the tour is the always wonderful Never Shout Never with main support from the Cab and Hey Monday.  Along with Every Avenue and the Summer Set, rounding out the bill. Some presale shows sold out in the first hour or so but regular ticket sales are on Saturday the 9th. If you do the presale however you get a free year subscription to AP magazine.

People Who Are Way Easier To Get Pictures With At Shows.

    Opening acts.

Tomorrow night I will be continuing the tradition with one of my best friends of going to the All Time Low hometown show. We go everytime the boys come back home for a show, then always hope we will run into them at Starbucks or the Apple Store in Towson the next day. As I previously mentioned in a previous blog I always check out the opening acts to learn their songs before the show. Tomorrow night isn't an acception as I am now currently listening to DNA followed by Runner Runner.

I already know and love Runner Runner from last year's All Time Low holiday show where I fell head over heels for the gorgeous boys and their amazingly catchy lyrics. DNA however I can say I haven't ever heard of. Two guys who define themselves as Pop / Rock / Electro and they completely rock their sound.

I'm looking foreward to listening to both bands before All Time Low tomorrow night and listening to them both in line on my iPod.
