Taylor Momsen and The Pretty Reckless.

Your eyes, your eyes, I can see it in your eyes. This is hook for the single off of the first EP for Taylor Momsens punk rock band The Pretty Reckless. If you don't know Taylor for being Cindy Lou Who in the film, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, where if you remember she did sing in that movie [YouTube video is down below], then you without a doubt know Taylor for being the now most hated 16 year old on the Upper East Side. The Gossip Girl regular cast member is taking a small break from television and is going across country on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour. Although there have only been three dates on the tour so far Taylor is generating a positive response from almost everyone. The only negative response I've seen is from Perez Hilton but he has a grudge against her and only commented on her outfit, not her singing.

Although only sixteen years old Taylor sings like a 20-30 year old woman. I normally don't like female singers but I really have to make an exception for The Pretty Reckless. And that really is saying something because I really have developed a dislike for her character Jenny over the past season of Gossip Girl.

The EP released last week and only features four songs, all of which are reflecting the new sharp edgy image Momsen has taken on. Here's the breakdown.

Make Me Wanna Die-Probably my favorite because it is in fact the single and has had the most effort put into it. The only problem I have with this song, and the EP in general, is that it makes me wonder where all this raw angst is coming from. I obviously don't know Taylor personally but from what I do know I never would of expected to to have any of these feelings. This whole dark image she's had seems to have formed as a result of her character turning darker on her show. Either way the song is enjoyable, but maybe she's trying too hard?

My Medicine-To be perfectly honest it doesn't even matter what this song is about, it could be about unicorns and I'd enjoy it because of how strong her voice is on this track. Even if they did some work on the vocals she still sounds great and from the videos of her Warped Tour live performances she's not doing too badly without the editing.

Goin' Down-"I'm just 16 if you know what I mean do you mind if I take off my dress?" Oh my. Taylor, please keep your clothes on. This is the most upbeat track on the EP and I'm sure it's one that gets a crowd jumping instead of just banging their heads around. It makes me excited to see her live in about a month. This song makes me think she actually could make it on Warped Tour and fit in instead of just playing a dark club.

Zombie-I do enjoy this song, but I enjoy the acoustic version better, the version can be found on YouTube but there were some technical difficulties when trying to embed the video. I really do admire Taylor's voice as a whole, she sounds better than anyone her age. From her voice to her style it really is hard to forget that she is only 16.

As a whole I'm a fan of Taylor and The Pretty Reckless but I still have to ask if she is trying too hard? Decide for yourself by buying their EP now on iTunes and in other online stores.

An Interview with @CarterHulsey.

Last week I wrote an album review for the album, "A Note In Your Pocket" that had just been released on iTunes and in stores. I was excited when Carter promoted the review on his twitter account but it didn't stop there. That event was on Tuesday, that Friday I attended the Bamboozle Roadshow and while backstage I passed by Carter and after asking for a minute of his time I explained who I was and the review that I wrote. An hour later I was setting up the camera getting ready to start an interview with him. Something different about this interview is that it was completely improvised and because the interview was spontaneous and not planned, I had no questions prepared. I thought on my feet and was able to ask Carter some questions about the album, touring, and what some of the best things are in his home of Joplin, MO.

You can get Carter's album right now on iTunes.

New Content From The Bamboozle Roadshow!

Late last night I came home from Hershey, PA where I attended the Bamboozle Roadshow. This was my second time going on this tour but I can guarantee this time was even better than the Maryland show I attended on May 21st. I worked tirelessly for about 10 hours getting all the pictures, video clips, and interviews that you want to see. New content will be released every day and it was more than worth the sunburn to know that I got all this exclusive content for you all.

I'll also be writing reviews of the live shows so you can know how your favorite artists really sound live.

Interview with The Love Light

http://www.myspace.com/thelovelightva

With an undeniably upbeat love-my-life sound The Love Light is a band you need to keep on your radar at all times.  If you're in the Virginia area this weekend be sure to check out their two shows at Hot Topic in Sterling and Fairfax. If not from Virginia, be sure to read the interview and watch their most recent YouTube video, which can be seen at the bottom of the post.

First things first, where are you all from and how long have you all been playing your respected instrument?

So where we are from, Devin is from Gainseville Virginia and he has been singing for the band since we started. It's his first time fronting a band, when he was in the Downtown Fiction he did backup vocals. Patrick has been playing the guitar for nine years and is from Gainseville as well. Josh has been playing drums for 8 years, and is from Fairfax Virginia. Chris has been playing guitar for 4 years and recently picked up the bass. He's from Williamsburg Virginia but moved up to Fairfax to go to school at George Mason.

How did the band get started?

Patrick and Devin have been lifelong friends and have been playing music since high school. They met Josh and Chris through freinds and school and eventually The Love Light was formed.

What do you imagine your listeners doing when playing your music?

Well hopefully when people listen to our music they are having a good time and being happy. Like driving down a road by the beach in a convertable or something around the lines of living loving and laughing. That'd be swell!

What do you strive to send through your music, message wise?

Message wise we hope that through our music we can spread hope and love. A lot of our songs are about love and relationships, basic thing that we've been blessed to experience. Sharing those experiences is pretty important to us because everybody has thoughs ups and lows in their relationships. These songs are for our listeners and their significant others.

What do you guys like to do in your free time?

In our free time we like to hang out. There's this river that's sorta hidden from the road with this giant tree that has a rope swing on it. We love climbing up this massive tree and swinging off into the water.

Given the choice would you rather play a show in a stadium with empty back rows or a small club or coffeeshop that was completely packed?

Oh man, a small club that is packed would defintely be the best show. For one, we absolutely love hanging out and meeting people and a small club or coffee shop gives that perfect intimate experience where we can all feel like a family. A stadium would be fun, but small shows are more personal and create a way better environment for everybody.

What are you most excited for with the future of The Love Light?

Patrick is super duper excited about touring, traveling, and seeing the country.

Devin is excited to get out on the road, see places, meet faces, and living in a van with a bunch of stinky kids.

Chris is pumped to meet all the different people who dig our music, and tour.

Josh is excited about going on tour and plaing at different venues and hanging out.
I guess that pretty much we all are really excited about seeing sights and hanging out on tour!

Any chances you guys will be playing outside of Virginia or even touring anytime soon?

At this point there are always possibilities that we could go play shows out of state, but nothing is set in stone. By supporting us through buying a t-shirt or pre ordering the ep when it's available we can go play more shows out of state!

When can an EP or Album be expected?

Well our ep can be expected to be released somewhere in between mid july and august! Be on the look out.

Just Give Me The iPhone!

Taking a step back from the music blog today I'm here writing on an iPad as I stare at the front of Apple store 20 feet away. So you might wonder why am I blogging and not getting the iPhone 4 right now? Well that's because I'm here behind 300 other people waiting in line and there are another 400 people behind me. I have my own blog and I've never felt dorkier than I do right now. Not as dorky as others though. Some have been here since 5 pm YESTERDAY. If that's not insanity i don't know what is. People are sitting and standing and all waiting to get there phone. There is also a mutual glare at people who walk out with their shiny new phones. It isn't all bad though, I've made a few friends in line who have helped my father and I come up with a master plan to get the phone as quickly as possible. At this moment my dad is at the other end of the mall waiting at a Best Buy. Although they don't have many the store does have the iPhone four. Apparently not many others know that because there are 3 people down there and an estimated 3,000 people up here because of the pre order and the regular line. Although those in the pre order line are guaranteed a phone the line is twice as long as the regular line. It's times like this where I really wonder what the hell I'm doing waiting in line for a phone. I'm justifying this by thinking of how my current phone is broken, and my contract is up, but maybe that doesn't mean I should be waiting 2-3 hours for this. Once I actually get the phone I'll decide if it's worth it.

It's been two hours and the best buy plan failed. They only had one phone left and my dad refused to do a $50 pre order as well. So im still waiting in line.

Now it's been three hours and my dad has left me to go home. Apple did something surprising though and gave out free Chik Fil-A and water in the line. It was a kind gesture and I'm sure everyone in line appreciates it. Currently it's 10:54 and we should be getting the phone at 12:30

It's now 1:15 and I have been here for 6 hours. I have never been at a mall this long and I think I'm starting to go insane. I remember it now, "oh come on Chelsea! We'll go to the store tomorrow morning and it will be exciting and fun!" I hate my life.

Plus there is a stupid rent a cop who won't let us sit in chairs or block anything. He made me move away from a store front this morning when the store wasn't opening for another TWO HOURS.
7 hours and the Chik-Fil-A cart came around again. Not a huge fan but at this point I'll eat it.

This is an extremely boring blog.

I cannot believe I thought I'd be finished by 11.

10 hours later and I never want to see Chik-Fil-A again.

Not that many people are in front of us but by that I mean around 40.

I'd just like to note how long this post was in the beginning and along with my energy and patience it has decreased rapidly.

12 hours and I'm going to have a breakdown

After 12 and a half hours of waiting an Apple employee came out and said "Sorry, we're out of stock" and that was it. They offered us nothing special, we couldn't write our names down and come back tomorrow. All we got was a half assed apology.

You can probably already tell how I feel right now.
