When in doubt, just cover somebody else's song. Many artists have gotten their start or boosted their music career by covering a popular song of the time. I personally really enjoy covers, sometimes more than the original. Recently I have come across three songs that where I NEVER listen to the original because of my various reasons, but I seem to be listening to other artists covers on repeat. It's the unique twist they put on the song that makes me wonder why Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Travey McCoy didn't think to do it in the first place.
Cady Groves covering California Gurls by Katy Perry
California Gurls is a song that, honestly, I hate it. I have no idea why it's so popular here on the East Coast, every time people over here sing it they're saying, "YAY, GIRLS IN ANOTHER STATE ARE WAY HOTTER THAN I AM AND GET MORE GUYS!" ….don't see much of the appeal. Plus the bubblegum pop sound it has turns me off as well. This version that Cady does, however, actually gives a bit more substance to the song. By slowing it down and making it acoustic it really makes the song enjoyable for me. Plus the vocals are just superb considering it's a one take recording in a hotel room. One of the many reasons why Cady is going to go far as a musician.
All Time Love covering Alejandro by Lady Gaga
Being an ATL fan for over six years I will listen to anything this they put out and 99% of the time I have really enjoyed it. When I heard they had put out an Alejandro cover I was really hoping that they would save this song for me because if you remember my review of the Alejandro music video, I'm not that fond of it or of Gaga. I was very pleasantly surprised by the cover and I hope they do it live when I see them on their fall tour.
A Rocket To The Moon covering Billionaire by Travey McCoy
I recently interviewed A Rocket To The Moon at Warped Tour 2010 where they talked a little bit about their cover and about how Travey himself tweeted to the band about how much he liked it. Out of all three of these songs I like the original of Billionaire the best, but it's so overplayed that I burned out after about a week and now have to change the channel when it comes on. Thankfully Rocket saved this song for me with their version of the song which is closer to the original than the other covers but still has it's own flare to it that makes it a unique Rocket To The Moon song.
So there are just a few songs that I enjoy that are covers of songs that I don't normally listen to. It's always great to hear your favorite artists cover a song that's topping the charts and bring it down to earth with an acoustic spin.
"Chelsea, Chelsea, tell me you love me. Chelsea, Chelsea, are you feelin' me now?"
That's the beginning of the chorus for The Summer Set's hit single Chelsea, which, of course, caught my attention when the video first came out. And I still say that I would beyond happy if any guy ever sang this song to me. So as you can imagine I was extremely excited to be able to sit down on the lush grass with Brian and talk about all things having to do with warped tour, the band, and calculus.

The Audition, Cash Cash, The Downtown Fiction, and country bumpkin Cady Groves fill out the bill which is sure to be the makings of a fun and energetic tour. The dates are below along with our interviews with Stereo Skyline and Cady Groves as well. We will not be able to make it to this tour since there is no date in our area but be sure to tell us how it is if you do attend.

Although I am still saving the footage of my sit down interview with the legend himself, I couldn't resist doing a post about Andrew WK and promoting how amazing his performances are on the Vans Warped Tour. If you still are waiting to go to Warped Tour this is the man you definitely need to see. Along with keeping the energy up on stage, after being in the music industry for so long, he is seriously the nicest musician I have ever met. Andrew WK plays the main stage every date of the tour so please be sure to check him out. Along with that here are my five reasons why I love him so much.
1. His energy is undeniable
2. They throw a free shirt into the audience at every performance
3. You can win a free guitar every day at the Andrew WK party tent
4. The 800 sq. ft. tent also has air conditioning
5. He is appealing to parents and children alike who just want to rock out
WARNING: This interview might cause you to laugh uncontrollably.

Straight from Australia comes Closure in Moscow, a high energy band with members that you can't help but love. I now more than ever want to move to Australia and live there for the rest of my life, if the accents weren't enough their sense of humor is amazing, if you can handle it. Above you can watch my full interview with Chris, the quick-witted 'bretharian' front man who gave me a run for my money in the straight face department. This is without a doubt one of my favorite interviews I've ever conducted and by far the most memorable. Warped Tour runs through August 15th so if you hear a car rolling by followed by an Aussie screaming, "Come here you sexy children!" don't worry. It's just Chris.
